What is the best glue for using a model of balsa wood bridge?
we have tried wood glue, but it takes a long time to dry. fast drying glues? we are in a time limit.
An aliphatic resin, usually a carpenter or wood glue. Is brown instead of white school glue. There are queues of others, but I would not be too much luxury. If the glue / wood bond is stronger than the wood itself (as it is in this case), there is little to gain. Do not be tempted by the glue. The features are not suitable for this type. It's too fragile. If you need super-fast construction work, but does not depend on it for the long term strength. A big problem with glue is that it does not fill the gaps. You want to avoid gaps in their joint whether the glue used, but adhesive is very unforgiving in this regard. In general, the faster the tail dries, the weakest of the bond. In applications of wood, wood is better to have to absorb part of the tail, creating a glue / wood composite that is stronger than the wood itself. If the glue dries too fast, you do not have the opportunity to penetrate as deeply, resulting in less participation. As a general rule, allow the glue to dry overnight, squeezed if possible. It is also possible that you are using too much glue and it is taking too long to dry. Or his tail is thin. Or, possibly, the climate is wet and taking longer to dry. There are many variables here. Experience and technique plays an important role. If you have the opportunity, the experiment of hitting some joints before building the present bridge. With practice, you can get more rapid drying of the joints using a minimum amount of glue. Running the job, as with most things, often leads to sub-standard results.

I like small trimarans of all sorts. This means trimarans that are available through commercial purchase or construction itself through the plans (assuming, of course, good plans are used). This also includes trimarans made with GRP (glass reinforced plastic) or wood / epoxy.

The charm of wood building, however, Appeals to do many things for themselves because of the perception that ships built of wood, there will always be a cheaper way to purchase a sailboat for TRI in the long run. This is not necessarily the case without embargo.
Construction costs are up today.
Of those who build fiberglass boats to pinpoint costs marine-grade plywood, combined with the generally high cost of epoxy, can put dollar amounts for building with wood on par with fiberglass. No only that, but when you add the time and money are factors in the equation for long-term maintenance costs, many home builders are inclined towards using fiberglass instead of wood.
I understand that they are coming. All facts must be taken into account. But with this in mind, I'm just going to offer some of the reasons why I still like the idea of building small trimaran with wood. Here are 4 thoughts to weigh in:
– If we were talking about "big" trimaran sailboats here then I could be reading this article on the construction of wooden boats. It is not the wood itself, but the task of the vessel a "big" project is that I probably will not want to address myself (and have much experience working with wood).
We are not discussing other world trimarans. We are talking mainly about FAST, little day boats that provide a lot of fun for single sailors, 2 partners, or a small group. (The only exceptions are the "weekend" trimarans that include a small cabin in their design).
While a wooden boat requires more care than one of fiberglass, to ensure its long-term health, the costs in time or money is not going to be huge. A small effort and attention can do much, especially if you properly store a home built wooden small trimaran from rain and sun.
– Options wood design construction are good. Of the current crop of plans available out there I see very nice design options for smaller trimarans incorporating wood … and this refers to some very nice old plans on the market, the newest addition. Whether you go with a small boat or a trailer and a power in the range of 20-feet something, there are affordable plans offered by reputable designers readily available.
– You can probably build a trimaran wood much easier, and in much less time, than a fiberglass one. This is probably the most appealing factor in favor of wood when comparing different construction approaches.
After considering the fiberglass needs for things such as layout, molds, guns, etc, building forums wooden boats that teach Stitch & Glue construction start to be very, very attractive – at least do it for me. (Boat builder Sam Devlin S offers an excellent summary of G on your website if you're interested).
If you have a lot of construction experience with fiberglass and then this can not be the case for you. But overall, I think this would probably be true for someone who has never built a boat.
– You can build with cheap wood before building a more expensive, as is the polished version with expensive marine plywood or fiberglass. You might be thinking, "Why Why do this? "But it can not be a bad idea. Why not do something like this … especially for a small sailboat?
You can buy some plans for a small trimaran you're pretty sure that you want at the moment, and then build a "cheaper" version of it using wood low quality and other materials so you can decide if I like. What I am talking about is essentially building a scale model of a ship that does not need to worry about making perfect.
You could build one that provides some sailing fun things to try … before the bombing more dollars for the highly involved. In addition, you can get some real experience in boat building in the world belt and become familiar with the boat you've imagined you really want in the process.
A boatbuilder discussed this idea in a recent interview (currently listed as a download from our site). In my opinion, this expert really put things in perspective when it comes to wooden boat construction – including small trimaran sailboats.
