What is wrong with my driving motor?
I just bought a used 16 'bass boat with an engine three MotorGuide 727 trolling with 24 pounds thrust. The motor is 12 volts and was back in around 1985. When I put the motor in the water, run at full speed for about 5 seconds and then closed completely off. I have to wait a minute or so before it will respond again. The person who sold me the boat wiring directly to the battery motor trolling. I mention this only because a coworker has a MotorGuide model and said his back has a plug that connects to a port on the front of the boat. Trolling battery has a full charge (I checked and connected to a charger to make sure it was full). Somehow I suspect that the motor is pulling too many amps or something and the engine is shutting down as a safety measure to avoid damage. Any ideas would be appreciated (other than "buy a new traction motor).
Sound like the engine has water in it a binding along good.Have burden has not had some that do not last forever?? It could be in controlling costs to fix more than worthy, as it is a 1985???
