Asperger Syndorme fixing sunken ships … all mothers and teachers saw in their children?
My older brother has Asperger syndrome, or high functioning autism. When I was younger, my older brother had an obsession with sunken ships, we have at least half a dozen models and a dozen books on various ships. Lately I've discovered that other children (its always men) with Asperger syndrome have been fixing this. I saw something in a documentary about the connection between the two, but I was a long time a go and only a few seconds. Not anyone have an opinion on this? or any other information? I'm very interesting in the subject as I am planning on becoming a consultant specializing in autism.
I've had students with Asperger's set on the Titanic. This child could say little obscure any detail you could possibly want to know about the Titanic. I have had several children obsessed with natural disasters-storms, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, etc, cartoon characters, cats, and in one case long dark straight hair (but only in females). These fixtures consisted of finding information, ask questions, touch things, talk about it, the collection of samples or photos, read books, etc. I think the wrecks are something that fascinates many children, and perhaps some children Asperger syndrome increasingly fascinated only typical children, as do many other things.
