Antiques – What's in a word?
Each subject has its niche specific words, descriptive, recognized terminology. These are words of international understanding, convey a clear picture of the object being described.
In the world of antiques this is very important, especially when the object is not able to be seen and managed by the person receiving descriptive information.
Antiques are a very broad topic and each category under the heading of "antiques" has its own specific terminology. Key descriptive terms used for categories like old silver, furniture, ceramics, glass, paintings, textiles, jewelry, etc.
In my theme antique pottery, porcelain and ceramics, I noticed a constant for a certain confusion Ceramic set of terms. These include the terms "paperback" and "hard paste porcelain.
The term "pasta soft "is sometimes thought in the sense that soft-paste porcelain is more" smooth "hard paste porcelain, (also known as, true porcelain) however, both terms actually refer to the temperature of the oven, not his own porcelain.
In reality, the temperature soared porcelain, pasta soft reference to a "low heat" which is usually about 1200 ° C. smooth paste is also known as "artificial porcelain", or "pate tendre" When Referring to French porcelain.
By contrast, hard-paste porcelain is fired with a hard fire, usually around 1450 ° C. hard paste, or true porcelain, derives its name from china, for the first time in this country for over 2000 years.
True or hard-paste porcelain is made by the combination of two integral ingredients, white kaolin, or china clay and "petuntse" as known in English and derived from the Chinese, "Pai-tun-tzu."
Technically, petuntse is a natural rock, fuse, which, when worked into a paste, combined with the white China clay and fired with a "hard" The fire, at 1450 ° C, results in hard-paste porcelain.
Most Europeans, soft paste porcelain belonging to the 18th century and in general terms, porcelain European harder pasta belong in the 19 century. But, as always, there are some exceptions.
Another term that seems to confuse the descriptive word for a figure ceramic. When the human being is depicted in porcelain or ceramic, which is described as a "figure." I recently saw a description with a figure described as a statue. The statue term is reserved for a life-size figure is in a large garden or park!
Alternatively, when the animals described in porcelain and pottery, is conventionally described as a "model", ie a model of a poodle sitting on a model of a greyhound alert etc.
Each subject specialist range of antiques has its own set of descriptive terms recognition and use of correct terminology simply makes the information provided clear and easily understood.
